2) For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe powered by an L-71 435 horse tri-power big block. With an engine like the L-71, a close ratio Muncie 4-speed and a set of 4.11 gears, look out! This thing means business and that's how it was in 1968. Manufactures were at war for the most powerful muscle cars and the Corvette was not one to be taken lightly. The L-71 was rated at 435 horsepower and 460 lbs/ft of torque. By 1968 the big three were well known for under rating the horsepower. This was in an effort to slide under the radar with the insurance companies and lobbyist that were cracking down on over powered cars. The L-71 was near the top for engine options in 1968. Only the race only L-88 and the aluminum head L-89 were above the L-71. This '68 Corvette was recently fully restored and 95 per cent of the parts used are OEM. The engine and transmission are both numbers matching and have both recently been rebuilt. Since the full restoration, the car has covered just 500 miles. Enough to make sure that all the bugs are worked out and few enough miles that the car still looks amazing. The car was painted in the original LeMans Blue and the interior is also the original Dark Blue vinyl. Inside the cockpit you'll notice the solid lifter 6,500 RPM redline, chrome shifter for the close ratio M-21 4-speed and the aviation style gauges. Pop out the T-tops, the rear glass, start the engine, listen to the rumble and get ready for a memorable ride. (NDLR: tach changed by owner #2, odometer looks broken). BiN $62,000. August 2016. BiN $59,000 (Ended) on November 2, 2016. 1) THIS IS A 427 435HP TRI-POWER CAR!! NO DOCUMENTATION TO VERIFY OTHER THAN THE BLOCK IS STAMPED WITH CORRECT 435HP NUMBERS. IT DOES ALSO HAVE THE TRI-POWER SET UP ON THE CAR!! There is no better time than now to buy this outstanding 1968 Chevrolet Corvette. This wonderful Chevrolet is one of the most sought after used vehicles on the market because it NEVER lets owners down. Probably a 327/350 car originally. 78,123 miles from the odometer. BiN $29,900. January 20, 2016. |
